State and Style - Architecture and Diplomacy: Challenges, Thresholds, Question Marks

The lecture focuses on architecture that directly represents states abroad, particularly architecture of embassies. It traces the basic stages in the development of architecture in the service of diplomacy, touches on key turning points in its modern history, and suggests possible contradictions in its current form. The lecture will also deal with the building of the former Czechoslovak embassy in Cairo, which is one of the remarkable monuments of the period in which it was built.
