January 25th Mozart - Gran Partita K.361 (Serenade for 13 wind instruments) The playing of Richard Strauss' Wind Serenade by members of the Helensburgh Chamber Orchestra was one of the highlights of last year's Christian Aid concert. Here, under the baton of David Bruce, the players return to present one of Mozart's most attractive works, his Serenade in B flat, composed in 1781. The piece was begun while he was in Munich for the premiere of his opera 'Idomeneo'. The abilities of the Munich wind players inspired him to create what has become one of the best-loved works in the woodwind repertoire. Perfect listening to enliven a dark January evening!
