The PTPA is very pleased to present our second YOUTH ACADEMY production, “CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG JR.” - sponsored by the Pasco L Schiavo Fund of the Luzerne Foundation - from September 5th through September 7th!
We are also excited to once again work with our friends at Collaborative Autism Movement to present a Sensory Friendly performance of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Jr. at 2pm on Saturday, September 6th!
WHAT
The PTPA Youth Academy, launched in 2024, is a program that enables youth and young adults to take on fully responsible leadership roles on the production team of a show of their choice with the guidance of PTPA veteran mentors – Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Jr. is fully directed, music directed, and costumed by our talented PTPA teens, and the sets, lights, sound, and other technical aspects of the production are also created by teens!
CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG JR. is based on the record-breaking West End production and the beloved film, and features an unforgettable score by the Sherman Brothers (Mary Poppins)! Take a fantastic musical adventure with an out-of-this-world car that flies through the air and sails the seas. Eccentric inventor Caractacus Potts sets about restoring an old race car with the help of his children Jeremy and Jemima. They soon discover the car is magic, and has the ability to float and take flight. When the evil Baron Bomburst desires the magic car for himself, the family joins forces with Truly Scrumptious and Grandpa Potts to outwit the dastardly Baron and Baroness and their villainous henchman, the Child Catcher.

WHAT IS A SENSORY FRIENDLY PERFORMANCE?
Sensory Friendly Performances are designed for individuals who are neurodivergent or who have sensory processing challenges to enjoy a show with their friends and family in a welcoming and inclusive environment. Lighting and sound in these performances are modified to minimize potential to overstimulate and patrons are free to get up and move around without restriction - in addition the lights in the auditorium will remain on during sensory friendly performances and quiet areas, sensory aids, and other resources are available. People without sensory sensitivities are also welcome at these performances - it can be a good option for families with young children and first-time theatergoers! We are extremely thankful to our friends at COLLABORATIVE AUTISM MOVEMENT (www.collaborativeautismmovement.com) for their assistance in coordinating and making sensory friendly performances a reality—together we are all working to make our community and the arts open and inclusive for everyone!
