About the event

14th Annual Green Fair
Hawthorne’s Green Team and the Hawthorne Chamber of Commerce are sponsoring its 14th Annual Green Fair on Sunday, September 7th, 2025 from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm (rain date Sunday September 14th, 2025). The Hawthorne Farmers’ Market is the backdrop for the fair, which will be at the Louis Bay 2nd Library and Community Center.

The purpose of the fair is to educate the community about sustainability—social, economic and environmental aspects—as well as buying locally, resource conservation, and health and wellness. To that end, we encourage all residents to be fit and conserve energy by walking or biking to the fair, bring their own bags, and to pick up Hawthorne’s Green Map. The Green Map is a network of safe walking and biking paths that links historical sites, parks, recreation areas, and public buildings in town.

Live Music - Enjoy the live music of “Brothers Mchat Duo a Matty Z Duo!,” a local band , playing from 10:00 am to 1:30pm.

Activities - St. Joseph’s Games and Activities for All Ages

We would like to highlight some of the Hawthorne’s Farmers’ Market vendors that implement and promote sustainable practices in their businesses that will be at the Green Fair. RH Farms LLC is a local family-run Farm that has been producing delicious fresh products since 2012. RH Farms pride themselves on our advanced farming methods so we can protect the environment while providing the community with only the freshest food. Tony Green Thumb utilizes hydroponic by growing the plants that are sold at the market. Clove Acre Farms implements sustainable farming in Sussex County, New Jersey where organic meats are produced. A Mother and Daughter, Lemons into Lemonade, business uses compostable containers, agave straws and aqua riserva water. Werf’s Honey - Werf the Wait produces local raw honey. There locations of hives are in North Haledon, Oakland, Wyckoff, Wanaque, and West Milford. In addition, their daughter Kaylee, is teaching people the importance of Honeybees in our environment as a Girl Scout Gold Award project. The Website is titled “Help Save the Bees” – www.pollinatorsaver.org.

Take a walk around the library grounds and visit booths from a variety of local businesses and organizations, such as Hawthorne Ambulance Corps, Hawthorne Fire Department, Hawthorne Recycling Program, Hawthorne Shade Tree Commission, Neighborhood Composting, Passaic River Coalition, BEAR Management, Friends of the Library, and learn about birds, rain gardens, the community garden, and native plants by the Hawthorne Environmental Commission/Green Team.

Goffle Brook farms generously donated seeds for flowers and vegetables to the Hawthorne Environmental Commission/Green Team.

Hawthorne’s local author Veronica MacDonald Ditko will be promoting and selling her first book entitled “A Rock Solid History of Hawthorne, New Jersey.” Children learn best through tangible objects like rocks. The book explores the history of Hawthorne, NJ through rocks and inspires school aged youngsters to look at their surroundings, learn from what they can touch and see, and search for more.

The rain date for the Green Fair is Sunday, September 14th, 2025. In case of rain, please visit the Hawthorne Farmers’ Market or the Hawthorne Environmental Commission/Green Team Facebook pages for more information.
