DICKINSON LECTURE 2025 - Presenter: Dr Peter Thule Topic: A Story of the Land Boom and Bust

Our guest speaker is historian and author Dr Peter Yule. The lecture is titled 'W L Baillieu and the Building of Raheen: a story of the Land Boom and Bust'. Peter will tell us the story, with a local bias, about the Melbourne land boom of the late 1880s; one of the greatest speculative booms in history followed by a ferocious financial bust which shaped the future of Melbourne for many decades. Peter will discuss 'Raheen', the heritage-listed Italianate mansion located in Studley Park Road Kew and its role in the fortunes and misfortunes of the Baillieu family. Pre-event light refreshments with supper following the lecture.
