Annual Blessing of the Sea

The Blessing of the Sea is an age-old traditional ceremony with combined churches of the Old Town Parish and St Mary Star of the Sea.

Hastings is the home of one of the few survivors of the once widespread custom of Blessing the Sea.
The Lifeboats, local fishing fleet and boats from Hastings, along with all that go to Sea are blessed, and those that have lost their lives at sea are remembered.

Readings, Hymns and Music!
Our ILB will also be launching at the end of the service to place a wreath in the harbour and refreshments will be served in the Station
