About this Event

Youth Action: ARC Trust heathland conservation

A chance to Join Heathland Ranger, Kirsty, and the Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Trust for nature conservation and habitat restoration activities to support our heathland reptiles and amphibians.

Help with heathland conservation activities to clear birch, pine and gorse from a special heathland site. You will be using a variety of hand tools, no previous experience necessary as you will be shown how to use the equipment. There will be a small, controlled bonfire on site to dispose of the cleared material. While we’re on site there will be a chance to learn more about the habitat and the fascinating and rare species that live here.

East Weavers Down is part of the Woolmer Forest Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and Special Protection Area, giving it legal protection under the Wildlife & Countryside Act. This site supports rare ground nesting birds, such as woodlark and nightjar, and reptiles such as sand lizards, who rely on well-maintained heathland to thrive.
