Repair Cafe's exist for many reasons, firstly to save all those household items going in the bin or recycling. They exist as groups to bring communities together and keep skills alive. The older generation will remember broken things getting fixed on a regular basis and repair skills would have been passed down from parent to child. However, planned obsolescence in the 80's meant that things were made to break down and not possible to repair. Even clothes now are often so cheap to buy, they too are no longer repaired. More and more of the earths resources are used up, and more co2 and other pollutants are emitted into our air, land and waterways.
So, at Repair Cafe's all over the world, communities are working together to bring back repair skills, save money and the worlds resources. At the Crowborough Repair Cafe we fix textiles, electronics, jewellery, guitars (and amps), smaller wooden items, mechanical things and bits and pieces that might need either a bit of glue or a quizzical mind on it. We've had all sorts through our doors. If you can carry it in, we'll try to fix it. Just make sure it's relatively clean that someone can work on it.
We are open on the 1st Saturday of every month from 10am to 12.30pm at Ashdown Junior School on Herne Road, Crowborough. If you do need to bring your car, there is on site parking available in the playground.
Please like and follow us to keep in the loop!
