Laurence presents the rich flavour and wide range of Georgian scientific discoveries and inventions, that is between 1714 and 1837, presenting a series of colourful anecdotes, strange characters, and accounts of curious experiments. The title ‘Balloons, Boilers and Beefsteaks’ reflects early efforts in taking to the air, the simmerings of steam power, and interest in the mysteries of heat and electricity.
