A walk through Modernism and Art Deco into the past ending at the delightful St Mary's Church now the scene of regular concerts
This is another free walk sponsored by GOSaD ( Golden Opportunity Skills and Development ) and is the second of our four walks exploring different parts of Perivale .
As before, we meet at the station, but this time we walk behind the station and then south under a railway bridge towards the Art Deco Hoover Building , eventually crossing the A40 Western Avenue over a footbridge to the oldest part of Perivale. As we walk, you will learn about the changes to Perivale and the differences that the Western Avenue helped make.
We will be going inside the church where Hugh Mather and the Friends of St Mary's Perivale , the organisers of their regular concerts, will give us a short talk of how the church was saved and has been looked after since getting a new lease of life as a classical music concert venue.
Afterwards we will look at the old graveyard and learn some more about this now cut off part of Perivale, and the buildings and people that were here.
After the walk, you can stay on for the concert or for an optional chill and chat at the Myllet Arms, a pub that replaced Church Farm.
