We had a great soft open of the Saturday Paceline ride this morning. The format worked really well. The terrain is good too, since the relative flatness allows for better draft effect so riders have the opportunity to surf wheels if they aren't ready to take a pull.
Ride format: Two laps of Buffalo->Trinity Church->Indian Trail->Old Furnace. Tempo organized paceline on Buffalo, Indian Trail, and Old Furnace. Full 2 minute VO2 max effort (for those that want it) up Trinity Church Steep with a full regroup at the top. Town line sprint at the end of each lap. First lap pace is hard, but not TNR hard. Second lap pace is more chill. If you want a harder ride, but don't feel quite ready for TNR, this is the ride for you. If you want a tempo ride, not a VO2 max slugfest over each hill, this is the ride for you. If you want to learn how to ride a fast paceline this is the ride for you.
The main route took us 1:15, which was from Lowe's out to two laps and ending at the corner of Buffalo and Old Furnace. From there some rode home and some extended the ride. The fast lap took 28 minutes and the slower lap took 32, so you could also cut the second lap to make it a 45 minute ride total (or 50ish Lowe's to Lowe's.)
Meet: 8am at Lowe's parking lot. Warm-up pace to the start of the first lap at Buffalo. We will also talk through how to paceline properly each week before we set off with anyone who is new to it. Our goal is to be welcoming.
I do need one or two other people to elect to be ride leaders because my wife and I are expecting a new baby any moment, so I'll be out for at least a few weeks when the baby comes.
