Traigh Mhor Beach & Community hall, North Tolsta, Isle of Lewis
Be part of a day of collective remembrance on Traigh Mhor beach, as we invite you to come together to pay tribute to the 55 long-finned pilot whales stranded in 2023. Join in creating WHALE sand sculptures accompanied by live music shaped by their voices. As the tide returns, the sculptures will be gently reclaimed by the sea.

2-4pm - WHALE SCULPTING WORKSHOP, Gress Beach. Hands-on workshop to help shape life-size sand whales. Meet the artists and try out techniques

Saturday 12th July
LOCATION 1 : North Tolsta Community Hall
10am-4pm - EXHIBITION
Exhibition sharing the story of the project, featuring artwork, music and research. Also meet scientists and marine life rescuers.
4-5pm - REFLECT
Music and Word Performance. Hear live music from Keening, plus testimonies from the 2023 stranding. Accessible. Tickets -

11:30am- 6:30pm - THE STRANDING GROUND
Visual installation marking where whales once lay. Not just their final positions, but the relationships, histories, and bonds they carried. Drop in and walk amongst the whales anytime.
11:30am-1:30pm - WHALE BY WHALE
Join us to create small sand whales, each representing a life lost. No experience required. Drop in anytime
1.30-3.30pm - LIVING MEMORIAL
Main memorial event -Procession, live music, and the community sculpting of two large sand whales. Watch or take part as we honour their memory.
6-9pm* - WITNESS
Watch the sea reclaim the whales *time will vary due to tide. Live music performance at 6:00pm. Drop in anytime.
