What hides beneath the surface of that nearby lake? Who's watching from the trees, just out of view? Join folklorist and storyteller Rissa Miller for a journey into Pennsylvania’s wildest legends: the cryptids that lurk in forests, rivers, and small-town shadows.
From the serpentine beasts that wind through the Susquehanna River, to the mournful Squonk of Franklin County’s hemlock groves, to Lancaster’s chilling werewolf legends, you'll meet a host of creatures that are more than myth. These monsters carry the forgotten histories and fears of their regions, and sometimes, a surprising touch of charm.
Even as cryptids explode in pop culture (yes, PA’s own Albatwitch has an entire festival!), their stories have roots that stretch deep into time. They evolve with us, reflecting who we are — and who we fear — in every generation. Expect thrills, chills, and moments that make you wonder what still waits, just beyond the edge of the trail...
Rissa Miller is a public historian with a passion for the eerie and unexplained. She leads ghost tours, teaches workshops, and speaks regularly on cryptids, magic, and supernatural history throughout Pennsylvania and Maryland. Known for her rich storytelling and deep knowledge of local lore, Rissa has been featured at festivals, museums, historical societies, college, and libraries across the region.

The Serpent's Key is Wheelchair Accessible, has an accessible restroom, ample seating areas, is service animal friendly, and features sensory lighting for those with photophobia or other light sensory concerns. Incense is used on occasion, but we're happy to hold off if you call ahead!
