Lịch sử chảy qua những phận người, vì thế đôi lúc nó cũng bỏ quên những cái tên, những câu chuyện đã từng có thời tỏa sáng trong quá khứ. Nhưng con người là một giống loài không thể yên tâm thẳng tiến về tương lai mà không chút ngoái nhìn quá khứ, nên những cái tên, những câu chuyện đáng nhớ vẫn sẽ được gợi lại.
Trong buổi chiếu phim và trò chuyện này, chúng tôi xin được gọi tên Helena Lemańska (1919 - 2017) - nữ đạo diễn, nhà làm phim tài liệu gốc Do Thái tài năng của điện ảnh Ba Lan và thế giới vào những năm 50s. Bà là người đặt nền móng cho điện ảnh tài liệu của Ba Lan, những thước phim do bà chỉ đạo quay và dựng trong suốt 17 năm công tác (1950 - 1967) ở vị trí tổng biên tập của chương trình Ký sự Điện ảnh Ba Lan (PKF/Polska Kronika Filmowa - trực thuộc Xưởng phim Tài liệu Ba Lan) đã trở thành nguồn tư liệu hình ảnh phong phú và vô giá về châu Âu lẫn thế giới cho nhiều đồng nghiệp đương thời cũng như các thế hệ làm phim kế tiếp.
Helena Lemańska cũng là một đạo diễn có duyên nợ sâu nặng với Việt Nam. Bà đã đến Việt Nam từ năm 1955 theo chân đoàn cán bộ Ba Lan tham gia Ủy ban Quốc tế về Giám sát và Kiểm soát việc thực thi Hiệp định Genève và đi nhiều nơi khắp trong Nam ngoài Bắc để quay lại những thước phim quý giá về nhân dân và đất nước ta giai đoạn tái thiết sau chiến tranh chống Pháp cũng như làm nhiều phim tài liệu về Việt Nam giành giải thưởng trong nước và quốc tế. Năm 1956, bà được Chủ tịch Hồ Chí Minh trao tặng Huân chương Lao động Hạng nhất vì những đóng góp to lớn trong sự nghiệp làm phim đưa hình ảnh Việt Nam đến với khán giả quốc tế.
Năm 1967 bà thôi việc ở PKF. Năm 1968 bà làm bộ phim tài liệu cuối cùng của mình có tên "Những lá thư từ Ba Lan" (Listy z Polski) nói về suy nghĩ của những người Việt Nam đang sống và làm việc ở Ba Lan thời đó. Năm 1969 bà rời khỏi Ba Lan sang Pháp, trở thành một chuyên gia trong lĩnh vực lưu trữ phim ở hãng Pathé Cinéma và vẫn tiếp tục hỗ trợ các nhà làm phim trong và ngoài Ba Lan, tuy nhiên bà không làm phim nữa và cũng không quay lại Ba Lan một lần nào. Bà mất ngày 21 tháng 11 năm 2017 tại Paris, thưởng thọ 98 tuổi.
Bộ phim "Những lá thư từ Việt Nam" của bà là tác phẩm thứ 2 ra đời sau giai đoạn 5 tháng công tác cùng đoàn Ủy ban Quốc tế về Giám sát và Kiểm soát việc thực thi Hiệp định Genève tại Việt Nam từ tháng 1 đến tháng 6/1955. Đây là một trong bộ 3 tác phẩm quay tại Việt Nam của Helena Lemańska (phim đầu tay là "Cây tre anh em của tôi"/"Bambus Mój Brat" - 1955 được giải thưởng cho phim tài liệu ở Liên hoan phim Karlovy Vary Tiệp Khắc, phim thứ 3 là "Chú ý, chú ý, máy bay địch đang đến"/"Uwaga, uwaga, nadchodzi" - 1966 được bằng khen danh dự ở Liên hoan phim ngắn Kraków Ba Lan). Bộ phim mới được phục chế kỹ thuật số như một phần của dự án "Chia sẻ các nguồn tài nguyên văn hóa phim bằng công nghệ thế hệ mới – AI (trí tuệ nhân tạo), số hóa thư viện âm thanh WFDiF và tái tạo kỹ thuật số các phim tài liệu của Ba Lan" do Hãng phim tài liệu và phim truyện tại Warsaw thực hiện trong giai đoạn từ 2018 đến 2021.
Sau sự kiện chiếu phim sẽ có phần trò chuyện cùng Kiến trúc sư Mikołaj Gomółka - Nhà nghiên cứu về các công trình kiến trúc và quy hoạch đô thị của các chuyên gia Ba Lan đã thực hiện tại Việt Nam thời hậu chiến.

Mikołaj Gomółka: Kiến trúc sư, nhà quy hoạch đô thị. Anh là giảng viên tại Đại học Công nghệ Warsaw và học giả thỉnh giảng tại Đại học Kiến trúc Hà Nội. Nghiên cứu hiện tại của anh khảo nghiệm sự phức tạp của các quá trình phát triển đô thị trong nửa sau của thế kỷ 20, cũng như sự đóng góp quốc tế của các nhà quy hoạch đô thị Ba Lan trong thời kỳ xã hội chủ nghĩa. Anh cũng tích cực tham gia thiết kế các quy hoạch đô thị tổng thể và các đối tượng kiến trúc.

History flows through the lives of individuals, therefore sometimes it forgets names and stories that once shone brightly in the past. However humans are a species that cannot confidently move forward into the future without glancing back at the past, so the memorable names and stories will still be recalled.
In this film screening and discussion, we would like to honor Helena Lemańska (1919 - 2017) - a talented director and documentary filmmaker of Jewish descent in Polish and world cinema during the 1950s. She laid the foundation for Polish documentary cinema, with the films she directed and edited during her 17 years of working (1950 - 1967) as the chief editor of the Polish Film Chronicle (PKF/Polska Kronika Filmowa - under the Polish Documentary Film Studio) becoming a rich and invaluable visual resource about Europe and the world for many of her contemporary colleagues as well as the next generations of filmmakers.
Helena Lemańska also had a deep and meaningful connection with Vietnam. She came to Vietnam in 1955, accompanying a Polish delegation that participated in the International Commission for Supervision and Control of the implementation of the Geneva Agreement, traveling extensively throughout the North and South to capture valuable footage about our people and country during the post-war reconstruction period after the French War. She produced many documentaries about Vietnam that received awards both domestically and internationally. In 1956, she was awarded the First Class Labor Medal by President Ho Chi Minh for her significant contributions to the filmmaking endeavor that brought the image of Vietnam to the international audiences.
In 1967, she left her position at PKF. In 1968, she made her final documentary titled "Letters from Poland" (Listy z Polski), which featured the thoughts of Vietnamese people living and working in Poland at that time. In 1969, she left Poland for France, becoming an expert in the field of film archiving at Pathé Cinéma while continuing to support filmmakers in and outside of Poland. However, she did not make films anymore and never returned to Poland. She passed away on November 21, 2017, in Paris, at the age of 98.
Her film "Letters from Vietnam" is the second work released after a 5-month period of working with the International Commission for Supervision and Control of the Implementation of the Geneva Agreement in Vietnam from January to June 1955. It is one of a trilogy of works shot in Vietnam by Helena Lemańska (her first film was "My Brother the Bamboo" (Cây tre anh em của tôi)/"Bambus Mój Brat" - 1955, which won an award for documentary film at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival in Czechoslovakia, and her third was "Attention, Attention, Enemy Aircraft Approaching" (Chú ý, chú ý, máy bay địch đang đến)/"Uwaga, uwaga, nadchodzi" - 1966, which received an honorary diploma at the Kraków Short Film Festival in Poland). The film has been digitally restored as part of the project "Sharing Film Cultural Resources with Next Generation Technologies – AI (Artificial Intelligence), Digitizing the WFDiF Sound Library and Digitally Reproducing Polish Documentaries" implemented by the Studio for Documentary and Feature Films in Warsaw from 2018 to 2021.
The screening will include a talk with architect Mikołaj Gomółka - Researcher of Polish architecture and urban planning contribution in Vietnam post-war development - about some of his studies on the contributions of Polish experts to the reconstruction of the country in Vietnam (after 1954 and after 1975).

GUEST SPEAKER INTRODUCTION:
Mikołaj Gomółka: architect, urban planner. Lecturer at the Warsaw University of Technology and visiting scholar at the Hanoi Architecture University. His current research investigates complexities in urban development processes in the second half of the 20th century, as well as the international worldwide contribution of Polish urban planners in the socialist period. Actively designs urban masterplans, as well as architectural objects.
