Join us at our August meeting for another write-in! Bring what you're working on or something you want to get feedback on, and let's work on it! If you need quiet space to work, we can spread out into the various rooms of the historic home we meet in. If you need feedback, we can set up editing rooms in separate spaces from quiet rooms. Whatever helps you get it done, we'll help. Starved for ideas? We'll have some spare prompts and ideas to help platform you forward. We'll also have a few world-building and character-building worksheets to go around to help you flesh out your ideas if you're getting stuck.
The meeting will be Saturday, August 9th, at 5:30 P.M. at the Laura Hawkins house at 210 N. 5th Street, Hannibal, MO. There will be a sign on the door. Just let yourself in!Please do not arrive earlier than 4:30pm. The building will not be open until 4:30. You are, however, welcome to show up early at 4:30 for business hours!The meeting is of course free, so bring a friend or two or three!
Big River Steampunk Festival - Volunteering and Book Sales
We officially got confirmation that we will be attending the Big River Steampunk Festival as we have in years past. You can sell any books you have published (sans Good Nonsense, which the guild will be selling) at our table if you volunteer for at least four hours (shifts are in two-hour increments) at the guild table over the weekend. Plus, it's just a fun time to hang out, talk shop, and get some writing done with all the walking-talking inspiration around!
We will have a few chairs to spare, but they are rickety metal ones, so if you want a comfier chair then please bring your own. Bring your own snacks and drinks as well. Based on previous years, we are roughly anticipating that the shifts will be as follows:

We will not have our table set up for any time on Friday.
Saturday, August 30, 2025:
10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

We will be scheduling volunteer shifts at our August meeting. Check your calendar and see if you're able to volunteer. It would be much appreciated! If you’d like to dibs your spot before the August meeting, email VP Kim with your preferred two-hour windows.
If you are scheduled to volunteer your four hours later in the weekend, you may provide up to 20 books at the August meeting and we will display/sell them at opening! Otherwise, drop them off at our table anytime during the festival after 10:00 a.m. on Saturday and we’ll get them out!
Open Submissions for the Next Anthology!
It’s that time again! We have opened submissions for our next anthology. Deadline for submissions is December 31, 2025. Please review the submission guidelines and submit your works via email to hannibalwrites(at)gmail(dot)com. We look forward to seeing what you create!
We voted at our last meeting to name Volume II Gobbledygook! Looking forward to what gobbledygook you submit!
