Exchange Forum - How to work with journalists

Welcome to our Exchange Forum where we will dive into the world of journalism! Join us at Smithfield Two for an interactive session on the ins and outs of working with journalists.

Freelance journalist Caroline Butterwick, who lives in North Staffordshire, will lift the lid on how the media works, and the ways that artists and people working in the cultural sector can look to gain coverage about their work.

Caroline will share examples from her own practice, demystifying the process of how she works as a journalist, and what journalists look for in a story. The session will have lots of practical guidance, alongside activities to help you think through what you can do as an artist to get featured in the press.

You'll leave with an understanding of how the media works and inspiration for how to go about trying to get coverage for your work.

Caroline writes regularly for national publications including the Guardian, The i Paper, Psychologies, BBC Countryfile magazine, The Simple Things, Stylist, and more, with interests in arts and culture, travel, and wellbeing. She's written features that highlight some of the great people, places and projects in and around Stoke.
