We’re bringing the next MLK SHK to a yard near you. Join us Sunday at Trixie’s for another #sundayfunday bash with the boys. This week I put together a group of DJs that kinda just magically showed up in my life.
Matthew Berels has been a homie I met working behind the scenes of Detroit clubs like Marble Bar. Dancefloor conversations and dive bar hangs with nothing but smiles every time we see each other. He’s always encouraging and supportive of what I’m doing musically, and now I have the opportunity to showcase what he does.
When I was scouting out Trixie’s for this party series, this guy asked to bum a cigarette, and then afterwards he improved with the band to sing a song about our interaction while I was smashing a plate of goodass ribs. End of the night comes, and this guy,Timmy C, happens to be good friends with my roommate Miguel. You can’t make this shit up.
I’ve got plenty of reasons to be grateful for Miguel. We started out as strangers who decided to live together based on our love and goals with music. It’s been magic ever since, and he inspires me daily with music and art. I’m regularly proud and in awe at the diversity of events he performs and helps curate. Can’t wait for him to have you feeling carefree with his patio vibes.
I have no idea what will happen having 3 DJs who have never played together, but what I do know is music brings people together. And you should come experience and see why I love these guys so much. Plus we get to throw this yard party on one of the sickest patios in the city you probably didn’t know about.
