Together with our friends at Canadian Tech for Good, this month at Common Table, we’ll imagine futures where technology serves people and communities - not the other way around.

December 2 Theme: Common Tech for Common Good

Technology shapes how we connect, learn, organize, and even care for each other. But what happens when the tools meant to bring us together end up dividing us, exploiting our data, harming our well-being, and deepening inequality?

At this session, we’ll explore:

• How can we support each other in navigating the anxieties associated with the current tech landscape? How do we counter the negative influences of digital tech?
• How do we empower people to build tools that serve local communities? How can tools be used to support mutual aid, creativity, and local resilience?
• What would it look like for technology to be community-owned and values-driven?
• What existing civic tech or cooperative models could inspire new initiatives in Hamilton?
• How do we balance the digital and the human, online connection with real life community?

What is Common Table?

Common Table is a community dialogue series that brings people together to make sense of our world and imagine new possibilities through open, inclusive conversation.

No panels. No experts. No PowerPoint.

Just people - gathering in community to share stories, ideas, and questions about how we live, cope, and take action in complex times.

Each session follows a participatory format: participants co-create the agenda, choose what to discuss, and guide the conversation. The goal isn’t consensus - it’s connection, reflection, and inspiration.
