About the event

Beekeeping for Beginners – Spring Workshop 2 of 4
After taking the beginner's class, this class covers the spring season and prepares you to receive your first box of bees!

About this Event

If you have your first box of bees arriving this May or June and no plan in place, do not take the risk, especially if you have not taken the beginner’s class I offer. Without a program and experience, you risk losing your bees and the chance of harvesting any honey; ultimately wasting time and money.

Daniel Kneblewski will share and teach you how to manage and keep your bees through the first day your bees arrive into the spring season. This local and custom program is based on the Ontario Beekeeping Manual, experiences gained from master beekeepers and breeders, and Daniel’s 7 years of experience. In this 2 hour class Daniel goes over the following:

  • Pre-spring prep: Ordering nucs/queens, getting your beekeeper ID registration, equipment must-haves
  • Where to locate your hive(s) on the homestead
  • How to perform inspections with tips and tricks
  • Planning for nectar flow and how to grow your hive to increase your fall honey yields
  • How to equalize your bee hive colonies, when to add boxes and supers.
  • Manage pests and prevent diseases over the summer
  • Troubleshooting for non-typical situations

After completing this class, you will have more confidence and know what to do before your first box of bees arrive.

In this class, Daniel will present a comprehensive slideshow and perform example inspections with an empty hive. Be prepared to take notes. A digital copy of the slides will be provided by Generations Marketplace to each student after the class.

Students will have an opportunity to order bees from Daniel if students have not been able to find local sources.

About the homestead teacher:

Daniel Kneblewski is an enthusiastic beekeeper who has received training and mentorship from master beekeepers and local breeders. In his 7 years of experience, he has doubled his yard sizes on multiple occasions, caught swarms, bred bees, dealt with significant losses, unexpected diseases, new pests and performed on-call rescues. Daniel manages 15-25 hives on yearly basis and loves beekeeping. His goal is to train you into becoming a successful beekeeper!
