A workshop on how to design and install a banana circle šš“
Join us for a hands-on afternoon of learning, planting, and community as we install a banana circle on shared land at Te Toki Way.
Led by Merve and a local banana team, this workshop is a chance to explore how bananas can thrive in Raglan and how thoughtful design can make all the difference.
What Youāll Learn:
š Tips and tricks on how to grow bananas successfully in Raglan, including sourcing local banana pups and companion plants
š The benefits of companion planting with species like comfrey, calendula, and vetiver grass
š How to build a central compost pit that captures water and nutrients, reducing maintenance and boosting plant health
š Practical tips you can adapt for your own garden or community space
This isnāt just about fruit, itās about creating a resilient, low-input system that supports biodiversity and soil health.
Youāll see how cardboard, mulch, and layered organic matter come together to form a sponge-like compost pit that feeds the entire planting ring.
What to Bring
- Sturdy footwear, gloves, and comfy clothes for digging and planting
- A bucket of mulch, lawn clippings, or leaves to contribute to the compost pit
- Some kai to share with the group (optional but always appreciated!)
- This workshop is for you whether you're a seasoned grower or just banana-curious.
š Parking is limited, so if you can share transport and/or park on Point St. Thank you
