In late 1705, a young composer set off on a nearly-400km walk to hear and learn from the greatest organist to ever live. The young composer was a 20-year-old Johann Sebastian Bach, and the great organist was Dieterich Buxtehude. Without this journey, perhaps we would still be lauding Buxtehude rather than Bach, but this fateful visit informed and shaped Bach’s compositions and performances for the remainder of his life.
Join the Bach Society of Queensland for this performance of choral, vocal and organ works by Bach and Buxtehude, including rarely-heard works and some of Bach’s earliest surviving compositions.
Tickets (adult $45; concession $40; group 6+ $35; secondary students $20; children free) are available at www.bachsocietyqld.org.au, or phone Linda on 0400 121 209 (please leave a message).
