Evidence
Als Solokünstler und ein Drittel von Dilated Peoples hat sich Evidence als einer der vielseitigsten Rapper und Produzenten im Hip-Hop etabliert. Er arbeitete mit Künstlern wie The Alchemist, Beastie Boys, DJ Premier, Westside Gunn, Linkin Park, Prodigy, Rapsody, Aloe Blacc, Action Bronson sowie seinen Labelkollegen von Rhymesayers – darunter Slug (von Atmosphere), Sa-Roc und Aesop Rock – zusammen. Außerdem wurde ihm ein Grammy für die Co-Produktion an Kanye Wests Album College Dropout verliehen und er erhielt zwei JUNO Awards für andere Projekte.
Neben vier Soloalben und einer Solo-EP veröffentlichte er fünf Alben gemeinsam mit Rakaa Iriscience und DJ Babu als Dilated Peoples sowie ein Album mit The Alchemist unter dem Namen Step Brothers.
Im Jahr 2021 gründete Evidence sein eigenes Plattenlabel Bigger Picture Recordings. Das erste Release des Labels war sein Instrumentalalbum Squirrel Tape Instrumentals, Vol. 2. Es folgte Rule of Thirds von Planet Asia, produziert von Evidence selbst. In den kommenden Jahren sind zahlreiche weitere Veröffentlichungen über Bigger Picture Recordings geplant – Fans sollten also dranbleiben.
Unlearning Vol. 1 ist das aktuellste Release von Evidence über Rhymesayers und zeigt sein Talent als Rapper und Produzent. Das Album vereint Eigenproduktionen von Evidence mit Beiträgen von The Alchemist, Nottz, Sebb Bash, Animoss, Mr. Green, V Don, Daringer, Khrysis und EARDRUM (QThree). Dies unterstreicht eine oft unterschätzte Stärke von Evidence: seine Fähigkeit, mit einer Vielzahl von Produzenten an einem Projekt zu arbeiten und dennoch ein stimmiges, konsistentes Album zu erschaffen – eine Seltenheit bei so vielen Kollaborationen. Die musikalische Kulisse des Albums setzt die Szene, doch es ist Ev’s Talent für zugängliches, zugleich einfallsreiches und cleveres Songwriting, das das Bild wirklich zum Leben erweckt und die Hörer immer wieder in den Bann zieht. Unterstützt wird das Werk zudem von starken Gastauftritten – unter anderem von Boldy James, Conway The Machine, Fly Anakin, Navy Blue und Murkage Dave.
Unlearning Vol. 1 steht sinnbildlich für künstlerischen Ausdruck in seiner reinsten Form. Es fängt einen Moment ein, in dem Vermarktbarkeit, Verkaufszahlen, Streamingpotenzial oder der Wunsch, anderen zu gefallen, zur Nebensache werden. Diese Freiheit ermöglichte es Evidence, etwas Besonderes zu schaffen – etwas, das einzigartig klingt, gleichzeitig aber seiner künstlerischen Basis treu bleibt. Letztlich markiert Unlearning Vol. 1 einen weiteren kreativen Höhepunkt in Evidence’ Karriere – ein Album, das neue Hörer begeistert und gleichzeitig seine bestehende Fanbasis festigt.

As a solo artist and one-third of Dilated Peoples, Evidence has established himself as one of hip-hop’s most accomplished rappers and producers, working with The Alchemist, Beastie Boys, DJ Premier, WestsideGunn, Linkin Park, Prodigy, Rapsody, Aloe Blacc, Action Bronson, and Rhymesayers labelmates Slug (of Atmosphere), Sa-Roc and Aesop Rock, among others. He’s also earned a Grammy Award for co-production on Kanye’s College Dropout and two JUNO Awards for other projects.. In addition to 4 solo albums and 1 solo EP, he has also recorded and released five albums together with Rakaa Iriscience and DJ Babu (as Dilated Peoples), and one album with The Alchemist (as Step Brothers).
In 2021, Evidence launched his own record label, Bigger Picture Recordings. His latest album of instrumental tracks, ‘Squirrel Tape Instrumentals, Vol. 2,’ served as the label’s first release. Following that came Planet Asia’s Rule of Thirds, produced by Evidence. Bigger Picture Recordings is slated to release many more projects over the coming years, so listeners should stay tuned.
Unlearning Vol. 1 is Evidence’s latest release on Rhymesayers showcasing his rap and production skills. The album pairs Evidence’s own production with works from The Alchemist, Nottz, Sebb Bash, Animoss, Mr. Green, V Don, Daringer, Khrysis and EARDRUM (QThree). This highlights perhaps an undervalued skill of Ev’s—his ability to collaborate with a multitude of producers on a project, while still creating an album with a cohesion and consistency rarely found in such extensive collaboration. While the album’s musical soundscape sets the scene, it’s Ev’s gift for relatable yet inventively clever writing that really paints the picture, continually pulling the listener in. That said, a small but powerful cast of guest appearances also decorate the landscape, courtesy of stellar performances from Boldy James, Conway The Machine, Fly Anakin, Navy Blue, and Murkage Dave.
Unlearning Vol. 1 embodies the sound and feeling of pure artistic expression, capturing a moment in time where marketability, album sales & streaming potential, and the desire to please anyone other than the artist themselves, are all just an afterthought. As one could expect, such freedoms allowed Evidence to tap into something special that sounds engaging and unique, and also remains true to his foundation. In essence, Unlearning Vol. 1 finds Evidence at yet another creative peak, creating a listening experience poised to catch the attention of new listeners while strengthening his core fanbase.
