Firefly Hike: Wizard Ranch Nature Preserve

We'll learn about fireflies' life cycle, how to identify species by their light pattern, and the science behind their illuminated butts. We'll also learn about the threats to fireflies and what steps you can take to ensure their survival.

What to Expect: This event is open to ages 10 and up (anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult). This event will include a short, easy hike. There is a port-a-john available on-site.

What to Bring: Dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes. Bring a headlamp if you have one available. Bring any snacks or drinks you may wish to have. Dress for the weather with sufficient layers.

Hike Leaders: Mary Patterson is an Interpretive Ranger with the Lancaster Conservancy. She is passionate about wildflowers, butterflies and all the wonderful things that can be discovered outside and is keenly in tune to the herbaceous plants that keep meadows and forest floors interesting. Mary also leads the local Susquehanna Nature Journal Club and is an active PA Master Naturalist.

Refund Policy: If you are unable to attend this event after purchasing a ticket, refund requests must be made at least 48 hours before the event.

Animal Policy: Service animals active or in training are welcome. Please leave all pets at home.

Cancellation Policy: This event will be held rain or shine, with cancellation for severe weather made at the time of the event. If the Conservancy reschedules the event, attendees will be emailed and tickets will be automatically moved to the new date. If the Conservancy cancels the event, attendees will be notified via email when possible and refunded.
