The Marriage of Figaro in concert

Maritime Concert Opera is pleased to present our first production of Mozart's great comic opera Le nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro) sung in Italian with projected English translations by a great cast of East Coast singers.

The opera revolves around the wedding of servants Figaro and Susanna and their attempts to thwart the Count's infidelity. The plot is filled with mistaken identities, disguises, and comedic situations as Figaro and Susanna, with help from the Countess, outsmart the Count's philandering ways. All ends happily, if somewhat improbably!

Based on Beaumarchais' scandalous 18th century play (the servants outwit their masters!), Mozart set Lorenzo da Ponte's adapted libretto with some of his most sparkling and expressive music. Our concert will feature most of the arias and ensembles of the opera in their original Italian (with projected English translations.

Singers include J.P Decosse (Halifax) as Figaro, Hannah Ernst (Lunenburg) as Susanna, Beth Hagerman (New Brunswick) as The Countess, Marko Hubert (Halifax) as the Count, Seth Sylvain Walker as Cherubino,, Neil Robertson (Halifax) as Bartolo, Andrew Pelrine (Halifax) as Basilio/Curzio and Nina Scott-Stoddart (Lunenburg) as Marcellina.

Music director Tara Scott conducts from the keyboard with the MCO Chorus adding their voices to the ensemble.
