- **Event Description**: I offer this class because I care for many women in our community after birth, including those coming from hospital birth with other providers, who are unprepared for what life with a newborn looks and and feels like.

I can’t tell you the number of times I have been called to someone’s home to help in the weeks after birth and found desperate strung out mothers and families at their wits end trying to run a pre-baby pace of life, they hadn’t prepared and buffered for the inevitable lack of sleep, etc. Breastfeeding was failing, and babies were underweight and stressed. Mothers were not being adequately nourished. Swimming upstream. Shut down in overwhelm, and the normal haze of the time. Confused. Not feeling any of the joy and pleasure available to them. 

Women are no taught that breastfeeding is a massive alchemical, whole body experience-- not just a milk expulsion feeding method. Not taught that it is truly a full-time job, and that each baby has their own pace and patterns. There is a severe mismatch between expectations and realities. 

Women turn turn to the internet for any voice of certainty...books peddling their sleep methods and baby life scheduling hacks.... But often these methods feel like the opposite of what their hearts are calling for, and everyone is still suffering.

Most of us aren’t living in “the village” observing generational mothering day in and day out. We haven’t seen countless babies latch on the breast ,or heard them wake and cry in the middle of the night from 6 dwellings down the lane. Most women have never been a part of a human birth experience or even an animal birth by the time they are stepping into the portal. And we don't have the family and community supports in place for optimal care taking of mothers and babies.

Most of the advice and instruction most new mothers and fathers receive is entrenched in toxic mythos, unfounded and false “expert” opinion (usually originating from old male doctors who never birthed or cared for babies) that continues to be passed down, or well-meaning relatives who learned the same. Most women’s mothers and close female relatives did not breastfeed for any length of time, and often disperse the ripples of their own trauma.

Rarely do women receive guidance rooted in the biological and energetic realities of matrescence — the physiologic, social, mental, emotional, and spiritual transformations unfolding that turn a woman into a mother and build a baby's brain. AND -- There will be tradeoffs and sacrifices. Our lives are not black and white. There is no perfect; we are all navigating different paths. I had my own. I have great compassion. But I don’t sugar coat, appease or assuage. You only have one postpartum. Your baby only has one first year of brain development. 

This class cuts through a lot of the noise and focuses on what we are wired for— love and attachment. As you stand at the threshold of birth, I want you to fully understand what the time ahead offers you so that you can make preparations that align with your values and intentions and step into postpartum with your full presence and love.
