You are all invited to WMARA's next hybrid meeting at The Pulse on July 30th, 5:30-7:30! We are restructuring WMARA with a more team-oriented approach and the help of a wonderful new co-administrator!
Unite and brainstorm with fellow local animal advocates while discussing current/future campaigns, plans, ideas and legislation while enjoying a delicious vegan meal. Connect with fellow animal advocates, plan events for the summer, and brainstorm for the future of the group. If you have any events or projects you’d like to organize or assist with, be sure to let us know. Even if you don't have time to work on a campaign, we want your input! We must put our brains and skills together and create positive changes for our fellow creatures.

We have a few events scheduled in August (see agenda) and plan to continue focusing on the following campaigns:
* UMass monkey lab: As an overview, we are advocating for UMass Amherst to end primate testing by the end of the year and create a plan to phase out animal testing by 2030. PETA started this campaign in 2021, and we have been working as a coalition with several animal rights groups since then and are currently restructuring. The current research being done there on over 40 marmosets could be done just as effectively without using monkeys, and primates suffer greatly in captivity, so we are hoping UMass will transition away from this type of research. UMass also has many other animal research facilities, leading to hundreds of animals suffering and dying. As a progressive research institution, we believe UMass can and should update their research to be more animal-friendly and human relevant, especially because there are increasingly viable alternatives to animal testing. In the fall, we will mainly be working on outreach, demonstrations/protests, social media, and letter-writing. Please let us know if you have any questions or are interested in working on this campaign with us!

- Traveling petting zoos
- Animals in agriculture
* Public outreach/education about animal cruelty in agriculture and the need for a plant-based diet for the planet and our health
- Tabling
- WoDES (World Day for the End of Speciesism) demo
* Legislation for the animals - mainly state and town. See agenda for important bills up for hearing July 29th!

We plan on holding monthly meetings, some with a vegan potluck and possibly speakers, if enough are interested!
