Join us for another edition of Inkwood Poetry Night! Our featured poets for September are Heather Bowlan and Raena Shirali.
Light refreshments will be served, all are welcome, and an open mic will follow the featured readers.

Heather Bowlan is a writer, artist, and community organizer. She is co-director of Philadelphia Small Works Gallery, a space for people who build community through work that reveals our obsessions, resists oppression, and celebrates our complex connections. Her poetry and criticism have been published in the Anarchist Review of Books, the anthology Feminisms in Motion, New Ohio Review, Interim, and elsewhere. Heather's collection of self-erasures and collaborative poems, Highlights & Blackouts, was published by _mixlit press in 2023.
Raena Shirali is the author of two collections of poetry. Her first book, GILT, was released by YesYes Books and won the 2018 Milt Kessler Poetry Book Award. Published by Black Lawrence Press in October 2022, her second book, summonings, won the 2021 Hudson Prize and was shortlisted for the Julie Suk Award. Winner of a Pushcart Prize & a former Philip Roth Resident at Bucknell University, Shirali is also the recipient of prizes and honors from VIDA, Gulf Coast, Boston Review, & Cosmonauts Avenue. Her work has appeared in American Poetry Review, The Nation, The Rumpus, & elsewhere. She lives in Philadelphia and thus is contractually obligated to say, “Go birds.”
