TOUCHING LIGHT: A Prelude to the Bicentennial of Photography (1827–2027)

TOUCHING LIGHT: A Prelude to the Bicentennial of Photography (1827–2027) presented by Museo Camera Centre for the Photographic Arts Gurugram is the first exhibition in India that traces the journey of analog photography across 150+ years from the earliest archives to contemporary practice. The exhibition opens on August 23 2024 and runs until September 29 2024.

Curated by Aditya Arya Touching Light unfolds as a tribute to photography’s pioneers and its living masters. On view are rare 19th-century treasures– from the People of India series (1850s–60s) and Bourne & Shepherd’s Carte de Visite (1860s) to the Beauties of Lucknow (1874)– placed in dialogue with works of 28 contemporary photographers including Ram Rahman Rohit Chawla Dinesh Khanna Prashant Panjiar Serena Chopra and more.

As the world approaches the bicentennial of photography in 2027 Touching Light serves as a historic milestone– an ode to pioneers and contemporaries whose images shaped India’s visual memory while celebrating analog photography’s tactile imperfect and human essence.
