Presents:
The Afflicted Imagination: The Brontës as Gothic Writers
Join Dr James Quinnell on Thursday 19 June 2025 at St Augustine’s Abbey, Chilworth for a fascinating evening exploring the Brontë sisters through the lens of Gothic fiction. In this intimate lecture with live readings, Dr Quinnell reveals the shadowed depths of the Brontës' work—shaped by Romanticism, psychological insight and a haunted imagination.

Taking place from 7pm–8.30pm in the Assisi Room (with optional Compline sung in Latin by monks at 8.30pm), the event includes a glass of wine and warm conversation. Tickets are £10 and must be booked in advance at http://www.ticketsource.co.uk (search 'Brontë') —only 30 spaces available.

Dr Quinnell, Head of English at Farnborough Hill and author of The Brontës as Gothic Writers: The Afflicted Imagination(2025), brings scholarly depth and passion to this special evening.
