You are invited to join a discussion about efforts to protect our communities from wildfire, floods, and other natural disasters. Find out what your community and neighboring communities have done to reduce risk and get ready. What do you want to do? What is most important? How do we get more people engaged? What can we learn from each other?

This conference will be different. We’ve all heard from experts about defensible space and home hardening, and we’re grateful for their expertise. This time, it’s our turn. This is our opportunity to talk with each other about our successes and challenges, to commiserate, encourage and learn from each other.

The conference will begin with a one-hour panel discussion among community volunteers from towns up and down the Lower Russian River who are working with Firewise, Communities Organizing to Prepare for Emergencies (C.O.P.E.), and other disaster preparedness organizations. In other words, this panel is us—community members who have taken leadership to better protect and defend our neighborhoods. Find out what your community and your neighboring communities are doing--and bring your questions!

The experts will also be there to answer your questions: Sonoma Fire, CalFire, Sonoma County Ag + Open Space, Permit Sonoma, Department of Emergency Management, Fire Safe Sonoma, Safer West County, Gold Ridge Resource Conservation District, and others. Breakout sessions will follow the panel discussion for all to engage with the experts and with each other.

A social hour will follow at 3:30. Lift a glass of wine or beverage of your choice, visit with friends new and old, and plan for more disaster resilience!
