Every year, responding to pressure to work outside their home countries, temporary migrant workers come to Canada to complete essential work that sustains the Canadian economy and communities; harvesting produce, caring for families, constructing houses, cooking meals, and more.
Most Canadians know nothing of the exploitation many migrant workers face.
With input and collaboration of former and current migrant farmworkers, Collaborative Network to End Exploitation has partnered with Mixed Company Theatre (MCT), Toronto’s theatre for social change, to develop a Forum Theatre production about the experience of migrant farmworkers in Ontario.
Harvest Justice: Twice the Speed of Lightning, written by Catherine Frid, is an interactive presentation that was created through interviews and conversations with migrant workers who shared their experiences. After seeing the play, audiences will be invited to discuss the issues, direct the actors, or roleplay their ideas to discover how we can all create positive change.
