Join us in celebrating Guelph Dance Festival at Guelph Youth Dance Studio.
Barefoot Dance follows a wave based on the principles of Five Rhythms dance.
It has been described as moving meditation; and starts slowly with, "Flowing," tracks. People often lie on the floor and use this time to stretch and connect with their bodies.
It moves into more beat driven music, described as ,"Staccato," as people connect body and mind through movement.
The wave reaches it peak with, "Chaos," a time to release tension and whatever other emotions need to be expressed through movement.
Dropping down into, "Lyrical," movement is free and light, and the wave reaches its end in, "Stillness," as dancers enjoy peaceful, meditative, relaxation, often back on the floor.
There are few rules with this form of dance. But basically you are dancing for yourself, not others. How you look is not important.
Your dance reflects the emotions going through your body right then and there and can be anything; you are freed from the need to look good, if your emotions are sad, your dance will reflect that.
It is possible that there will be communication with other dancers through movement, but this has to be with consent, which requires sensitivity to body language. If someone does not want to engage, it will be clear and that must be respected.
Cost $20 or whatever you can afford.
