Save The Library

Saturday 2pm St James Hotel - Save our Library - come to the meeting. The library building is one of our last assets but its more than bricks and mortar, its a symbol of learning, culture, heritage and our pride in the arts. When I grew up a trip to my hometown library was an event. I relied on it for peace, quiet, fellowship and community learning. It had the books I couldn't get. I hired videos, albums and tapes. When I moved to Grimsby in 1991 the first time I stepped in the building I felt familiarity. Similar wood and metal work. The smell of books. I attended classes and bought tickets for events there. I used it a lot. But my life has changed, society has changed, the world is different and the library needs to adapt to be relevant. When the world changes you don't destroy the past - you build on it - you adapt. The council needs to maintain the building and Lincs Inspire need to develop the services. It needs a coffee shop and exhibitions. It needs to give people the chance to see the view from the top. Save our library as a library.
