Belly Dance Workshop Middle Eastern Rhythms for Dancers with Kaya

Join Kaya for a Belly Dance Workshop on Middle Eastern Rhythms at the Wild Rose Belly Dance Competition.

Saturday March 28th and 29th 2026 at the Mt. Hood Community College Theater.

Have you found yourself dancing to middle eastern music and wondered “hmmm what is that beat called?” “How do I count that rhythm?” or “how do I dance to this?” Have you ever wondered what the heck your drummer was playing for your drum solo?

Then this is the class for you!

In this workshop, we will delve into popular middle eastern drum rhythms by learning to play them on the drum, speak them, dancing to them, and identifying them in popular Arab music as well as the drum solo form.

All levels of dancers welcome!

Suggested materials: (not required to participate in the workshop) Darbuka/Doumbek/Darbekki (middle eastern hand drum Note Pad or notebook with writing utensil

Optional: A middle eastern song (title and artist) whose rhythms you would like to be able to identify.
