Please join us for an evening of flute-centric music in celebration of the life and legacy of renowned flute educator and technician, Eldred Spell.

A testament to Eldred Spell's influence in the flute world, Jeana Mellili owns an Eldred Spell piccolo head joint, and Caroline Ulrich owns a Spell flute head joint. Lillian Buss Pearson performed regularly with Eldred during his tenure at Western Carolina University.
Caroline Ulrich - Principal flutist of the Greenville Symphony Orchestra, Caroline enjoys an extensive orchestral performing career in the southeast. She has been featured soloist with the GSO many times performing the works of Mozart, JS Bach, CPE Bach, Lucas Foss and Jacques Ibert. Together with pianist Lillian Buss Pearson, Caroline has performed numerous recitals. The collaboration began over 40 yeas ago and is going strong! She also enjoys playing for the Broadway Tours at the Peace Center. Among her favorites are Evita, Wicked, Ragtime, Peter Pan, My Fair Lady, Fiddler on the Roof, and The Sound of Music.
Dr. Ulrich is on the faculty of Furman University. Previously she was flute instructor at the SC Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities, Luther College, and Clemson University. She holds both the Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music in Performance from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and a Bachelor of Music in Performance from Florida State Universtiy. She studied with Charles DeLaney, Felix Skowronek, and Alexander Murray.
Jeana Melilli - Jeana is the Principal Flute of the Savannah Philharmonic, Third Flute/Piccolo for the Greenville Symphony, and Second Flute of the Coastal Symphony of Georgia. She is in demand as an extra musician and has appeared with the Atlanta Symphony, Atlanta Opera, Atlanta Ballet, Jacksonville Symphony, Charleston Symphony, West Virginia Symphony, and other orchestras throughout the southeast. The Savannah Philharmonic has featured her multiple times as a soloist, and she is in demand as a chamber musician. Jeana is also a Baroque flutist, and helped found Savannah Baroque and the Vista Ensemble.
Alongside her work as a performer, Jeana has kept a steady flute studio since 2002. Many of her students succeed at auditions for District, Region, and All-State bands and orchestras, youth orchestras, summer and collegiate programs. She is in demand as a clinician, providing lectures for students at Agnes Scott College, Georgia Southern University, Furman University, Valdosta State University, as well as local middle and high school band programs throughout the southeast. She received her MM in Flute Performance from Northwestern University where she studied with Walfrid Kujala, and she received her BM in Flute Performance from The Catholic University of America, where she studied with Carole Bean.
Lillian Buss Pearson - Lillian has appeared throughout the continental United States, England, Costa Rica and China as a soloist and collaborative artist. She is also certified as a teacher of the Alexander Technique. An active musician in western Massachusetts, she holds positions at the University of MA-Amherst and at Westfield State College. Prior to moving to New England in 2007, she was the head of the keyboard area at Western Carolina University, North Carolina. Dr. Pearson holds degrees from Florida State University and the University of Illinois, her principal teacher being the Hungarian trained pianist Edward Kilenyi. Her interest in historically informed performance practice has led her also to study harpsichord and
fortepiano.
Lillian is the official pianist at the International Flute Festival in Costa Rica where she has performed the past five years. In October, 2008 she appeared in Weill Recital Hall, NYC, in a concert of four international flutists. On numerous occasions she has had opportunity to collaborate with internationally known artists. Pearson's solo orchestral appearances include performances with the Jacksonville Symphony (FL), the Asheville Symphony (NC), the Breckenridge Festival Orchestra (CO), the Western Carolina Civic Orchestra (NC), the National Chamber Players (NC), and the Brandenburg Ensemble (FL). For many years she was a member of the Breckenridge Music Festival and the Cullowhee Summer Music Festival. She has served as an accompanist for many conferences and workshops.
