On Sunday, August 17th at 12:15pm in White Oak Park (2020 McClintock Road, White Oak, PA), The Aliver Foundation, White Oak EMS, Rainbow Volunteer Fire Company, and Allegheny County Police in partnership with Allegheny County and Allegheny Parks are holding a family friendly community event to celebrate the donation of a lifesaving equipment bundle consisting of a CE TEK 4000 Outdoor AED Enclosure along with a Heartsine Samaritan 350P AED.

“Making our parks safer and more accessible is a key part of building a county where everyone can thrive,” said County Executive Sara Innamorato. “We’re grateful to The Aliver Foundation, local EMS, and all our partners who helped make this donation possible. Having AEDs available in public spaces can mean the difference between life and death, and it’s another way we’re investing in the health and well-being of our communities.”

This event will feature a touch-a-truck opportunity where local first responders will meet-and-greet attendees, an interactive CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and AED (automated external defibrillator) demonstration by White Oak EMS, and a stethoscope craft for children.

Thank you to the McKeesport Hospital Foundation’s Marsha Bazylak Memorial Fund for underwriting the equipment for White Oak Park. “White Oak Place is where we held many birthdays, picnics, and is the park we continue to frequent for walks,” said Tom Bazylak.

Each year, nearly 360,000 people in the United States will experience an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest and fewer than 10% will survive. The best outcomes occur when CPR is started immediately and an AED is used within the first few minutes. For every minute defibrillation is delayed, the chance of survival drops by about 10%.

“White Oak EMS is proud to support the placement of an AED at White Oak Park. I’ve personally seen how rapid defibrillation can save lives in critical moments. When someone suffers sudden cardiac arrest, every second counts,” said Justin Webster, Deputy Chief, White Oak EMS. “Having an AED available—rain, snow, or shine—empowers bystanders to take immediate action and greatly improves the chances of survival before EMS arrives,” Webster added.

The hope is that nobody will ever have to use this equipment but knowing it is there and can remain outside and accessible no matter the weather is so important.
