About the event

The Colour of Water - Exhibition
"The Colour of Water" - featuring Louise Day, Catriona Henderson Darroch and Jackie Stevenson.

Drop into our Gallery and take in this beautiful exhibition of watercolours by three Argyll based artists.

Jackie Stevenson RSW is a Scottish artist who studied Drawing and Painting at Glasgow School of Art. Her work is an interpretation of the effects of light and weather on northern landscapes, mainly in the more remote areas of the West of Scotland, and particularly the Cowal Peninsula. ‘I use mixed water-based media, including watercolour and collage, to create layers and texture in my work. The images are an evocation of a particular place and atmosphere rather than being purely representational.’

Louise Day creates work inspired by natural forms, particularly those found along the shore or in her garden. She works with a range of different media but has a particular love of working in watercolour. ‘I have always had a fascination with translucency, and my work has explored this in various ways. I am interested in the way that shapes, colours, lines and patterns, when built up on top of each other, create interesting and unexpected effects where they overlap.’

Catriona Henderson Darroch is an artist member of Paisley Art Institute, Cowal Open Studios and a member of Artists in Motion, a pan European organisation, based in France. Catriona works in pure watercolour, mostly wet on wet with dry brush to finish. ‘I have been observing, drawing and painting since I was a child living on the Isle of Arran and have a lifelong love and passion for Watercolour painting, an ethereal, mysterious medium to fascinate the artist and viewer alike. Like life itself, they can be unpredictable which I eagerly embrace.’

Our Gallery is open Wednesday to Saturday, 11.00am to 3.00pm. Admission is FREE, however donations are always welcome.
