Join us for the beautiful practice of continuous chanting. Drop in to the temple from any time between 10.30am and 12.30pm (you can enter and leave the shrine room at any time) - the chant will continue. This is a rare opportunity to try out a central practice here at Bright Earth. In continuous nembutsu we chant a simple chant ('Namo Ami-da Buuu-tsu') over and over again for hours (we have done 24 hours in the past!).
Saying 'Namo Amida Bu' (the nembutsu) is the way we connect to Amitabha Buddha - the Buddha of Infinite Light - who accepts us just as we are.
People are free to enter and leave the shrine room whenever they want and the chant continues. We sit for 20 minutes and chant, and then walk slowly around the shrine room for 20 minutes and chant (people are free to stay seated if they want).
The chant usually begins simply and eventually people make harmonies - you can do this or not - it's not important that we're tuneful, just that we immerse ourselves in the nembutsu for an extended period of time.
You are free to pop in for half an hour to see how it is, and if possible I'd also recommend that you try the whole two hours (or at least an hour) for the full experience which builds over time. This can be a surprisingly powerful practice and often connects me to how I'm feeling, helps me process things, and leaves me feeling connected to love and with a rosy glow!
Any questions let me know. Maybe I'll see you there.
