Local pianists Gaelan Sterr, Esther Ling, Timbrel Penner and Matt Falk join forces to bring you the Grande Prairie All Stars Piano Show! With selections from as far back as the 1800s Romantic era to as recent as modern film soundtracks, as well as some original compositions and arrangements by the performers, this concert will be a great showcase of the versatility of solo piano.
Hosting this concert, as well as performing, will be Gaelan Sterr. Having played the piano since childhood, Gaelan has discovered his own musical niche in his solo piano performances and compositions. Taking inspiration from a blend of genres including ragtime, classical, minimalist, film score and more, Gaelan takes his audience on a musical journey that is both comical and inspiring.
Esther Ling is a Malaysian-born Canadian pianist, composer, and singer-songwriter based in Grande Prairie, AB. Known for her heartfelt storytelling and compelling lyricism, she explores deep human emotions through music. Her debut single, Pink Walls (2024), addressing domestic violence, gained international radio play and was featured in awareness campaigns across North America. Her song Cheeky Wind won the Grande Prairie Boys Choir Songwriting Competition and was premiered live by the Junior Boys Choir. A versatile pianist and songwriter, she performs at weddings and accompanies schools, students, and ensembles. She shares intimate stories through her original songs and jazz/neo-soul covers, performing locally at small-scale venues and songwriter circles. Through her music, she hopes to offer listeners the same healing and connection it brings her.
Timbrel Penner grew up here in Grande Prairie. She has spent much of her childhood taking piano lessons, and has completed the ARCT in piano performance with the Royal Conservatory. She occasionally accompanies other musicians and plays at weddings, but mostly enjoys playing for fun at home. She lives in GP with her husband Jesse and their three daughters.
Matt Falk, who goes by the composer name of Mateo James, teaches band here in Grande Prairie and lives with his wife Andrea, their dog Pippin, and their daughter Loralyn. His latest large scale project with music was starting a relaxation youtube channel, which he is happy to say has monetized to the point of maybe being able to pay for a family holiday, or a coffee each day…depends on the month! He is not entirely certain which direction to go next with music, but puts it best saying: “I have a few irons in the fire though, perhaps some concert band composing, perhaps some EDM, or perhaps I’ll try my hand once again at entering into the video game composing world. We’ll see!”
These four musicians look forward to bringing you a concert experience you will never forget!
