About David Siev
David Siev is a Cambodian-Mexican American filmmaker and the director of BAD AXE, which won the Audience Award at SXSW, received a Critics Choice Award, and was shortlisted for the 95th Academy Awards. His work explores themes of intergenerational trauma, identity, and the American immigrant experience.
David has led national conversations on the American Dream and Southeast Asian identity, contributing a guest column to The Daily Beast, giving a TED Talk in 2023, and speaking at institutions such as Harvard, Cornell, and Notre Dame. He is currently developing Kampuchea, a sweeping war epic and refugee story he’s spent the past decade writing, inspired by his father’s survival of the Killing Fields and pursuit of the American Dream.
