September Movie - A Complete Unknown (2024)

It’s that time of year again, and I figure we’d kick off Movie Group with another rock star biopic. If you remember last year, we started with Rami Malek’s amazing portrayal of Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. This year we’ll watch Timothee Chalamet take a swing at Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown! Per Searchlight Pictures “New York, 1961. Against the backdrop of a vibrant music scene and tumultuous cultural upheaval, an enigmatic 19-year-old from Minnesota arrives with his guitar and revolutionary talent, destined to change the course of American music. He forges intimate relationships with the music icons of Greenwich Village on his meteoric rise, culminating in a groundbreaking and controversial performance that reverberates worldwide. Timothée Chalamet stars and sings as Bob Dylan in James Mangold’s A COMPLETE UNKNOWN, the electric true story behind the rise of one of the most iconic singer-songwriters in history. The film also stars Edward Norton as Pete Seeger, Elle Fanning as Sylvie Russo, Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez, Boyd Holbrook as Johnny Cash and Scoot McNairy as Woody Guthrie.”
The performances are excellent, and so is the music. Hope to see you there. We’ll meet September 18th in the Guild Room. Fellowship starts at 5:30PM, Movie starts at 6:00PM. Feel free to bring snacks and aps, and a beverage of your choice (beer and wine is acceptable); also bring 5 bucks if you want in on the pizza at intermission.
