As you know, from time to time, I like to try something new with Movie Group. Now that “spooky season” is upon us, I thought it may be fun to take a stroll down memory lane. Many of you know of my fondness for classic cinema and television shows. Much of this goes back to my childhood, when I had a little black and white 13” tv with “rabbit ears” in my bedroom. One of my favorite memories was during the summertime (probably when I was 9 or 10), I would set my alarm for midnight; and if I could get CBS’s signal, I’d watch a half hour rerun of the classic Twilight Zone. The show really was quite groundbreaking for the time, with 156 episodes spanning from 1959 to 1964. Countless film directors were inspired by this series, and many actors and actresses had roles in these shows before they made it big.
I thought it’d be fun to show a few episodes on the big screen. Most people know what this show was about, but the host and creator Rod Serling sums it up best:
“There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone.”
We’ll meet October 16th in the Guild Room. Fellowship starts at 5:30PM, movie starts at 6:00PM. Feel free to bring snacks and aps, and a beverage of your choice (beer and wine is acceptable); also bring $5 if you wish to have pizza at the intermission.
