I believe that "story" is healing, freeing, affirming -- essential.
Even if you do not wish to publish your stories but want to create a written record of an aspect of your life for family, friends, or self, I encourage you to consider taking this workshop.
In this 6-week workshop, you will be guided to find the focus for your memoir. Memoir is different than autobiography. While an autobiography might begin with the day you were born until the present moment, a memoir focuses on a particular theme in your life -- family, parenting, education, career, the loss of a loved one and the grieving process which followed, illness of your own, travel experiences, a beloved pet, etc. We all have so many stories and lived experiences, sometimes it's hard to decide which one to write about first! But the key to writing is simply to begin. Let me help you.
Each week you will be invited to bring up to 5 new pages of writing to share with others in the workshop. You will also be presented with different writing tools to help you tell your story -- mining your experiences, use of research, speculation, sensory details, finding "the" beginning, as well as discovering your voice. The workshop will culminate with an optional public reading where you can share your words with others.
Included in the workshop is weekly editing and response from the instructor for up to 5 pages of typed, double-spaced text.
In order to provide each participant with time to share their work, class is limited to 8 people. Please send a letter of interest detailing your writing experience and what you'd like to work on during the workshop. Cost is $155. Please Venmo Kathleen-Coudle-King. Once email and pay has been accepted, you will receive a confirmation email.
*I am also available for editing of manuscripts outside of the workshop content. Please inquire for rates.
