About the event

An evening with...Tess Hadley
We are SO excited to be hosting this event in the Book-ish Loft to celebrate the brilliant new novella from the hugely talented and revered Tessa Hadley! All tickets include a glass of wine or a soft drink and there will be the opportunity to get your book signed too.

About The Party
Her new novella, The Party – published in a beautiful and elegant slim hardback edition – is an irresistible, emotionally astute story of two sisters coming of age, set in Post-War Bristol. The story opens with Moira and Evelyn going to an art students' party in a dockside pub where they meet two men, Paul and Sinden, whose air of worldliness and sophistication both intrigues and repels them. A few days later they are invited to a grand suburban mansion Paul shares with his siblings, and Moira accepts despite Evelyn's misgivings. As the night unfolds in this unfamiliar, glamorous new setting, the sisters learn things about themselves and each other that shock them, and release them into a new, unsettling phase of their lives.

About Tessa Hadley
Tessa is the author of several highly, bestselling praised novels, including Accidents in the Home, which was longlisted for the Guardian First Book Award, Everything Will Be All Right, The Master Bedroom, The London Train, Clever Girl, The Past, Late in the Day, Free Love and three collections of stories, Sunstroke, Married Love and Bad Dreams. She won the Windham Campbell Prize for Fiction in 2016, The Past won the Hawthornden Prize for 2016, and Bad Dreams won the 2018 Edge Hill Short Story Prize. Her stories appear regularly in the New Yorker and she has built up a huge fan-base amongst writers and critics, including Zadie Smith, Colm Toibin, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and the late Hilary Mantel. Her books have now sold over a quarter million copies in the UK alone. Tessa lives in Cardiff and was for many years a creative writing teacher at Bath Spa University.
