Welcome to the Paper Scissors Rock Exhibition and Calligraphic weekend workshops at Gallery On Track, where your calligraphy journey starts off with -
Each class is limited to 12 students, providing more interactive time with the workshop tutor. Bookings are essential; these courses have been price-matched due to the combined events.
This exhibition by Calligraphy Southscribes Inc. offers a tapestry of calligraphic styles and approaches to introduce viewers to the art of fine writing.
Covering traditional and contemporary calligraphy, the exhibition explores the enduring beauty and expressive power of the written word. Through a diverse range of scripts, styles and artistic interpretations, the exhibition aims to engage visitors with the historical depth and modern relevance of calligraphy, fostering appreciation of this ongoing art form.
Our exhibition will showcase the expressive and harmonious relationship between form and meaning in calligraphy. Some artists highlight classical scripts like Uncial, Versals or Italic, continuing a traditional technical mastery. Other artists will feature contemporary interpretations, demonstrating how they are pushing boundaries, using new materials and exploring abstract expressions while retaining the essence of calligraphic principles.
The exhibition aims to attract a broad audience, including art enthusiasts, students of art and design and anyone seeking to explore the beauty and discipline of this traditional art.

Uncial was commonly used from the 4th to 8th centuries AD. Over time the lettering has evolved into the modern variations we see today. It’s a script that remains popular because of its ease of writing and legibility, making it an ideal script for beginners to learn. Bookings close 27 September 2025 - min 6 people to run.
Info: Versals are the capital letters that were used to begin a new chapter or paragraph in manuscripts. This workshop will show you how to modernise capitals for our time. They can be vibrant, colourful, and fun to do. Come and see where your imagination will take you as we look at many different ways of drawing letters. Class suitable for every skill level, from people who have never drawn a letter to those who have great experience. Bookings close 17 October 2025 - min 6 people to run.
Info: This lettering is my monoline variation of Weaver Script, which is based on the script designed by American calligrapher, the late Gwen Weaver. There are only 26 letters in this script (no capitals) so can be easily learnt in a four-hour workshop and is suitable for all skill levels. The aim of the workshop is to have fun playing with some interesting letters, which can then be used to create a small piece of work.
Info: Line is the key element of lettering design and is one of the most important visual elements we use as calligraphers. Line is the recorded movement of a mark or dot from one point to another.
They can be short, long, curved, straight, angular or rounded, thick or thin
In this workshop we will study line, looking at historical examples for inspiration to find patterns of line, geometric structure, rhythm, gesture and quality of line.
We will explore the relationship lines have with each other, using various tools and mediums both traditional and experimental.
Info: This is a hands-on workshop, we’ll be creating gift ideas with uniquely personalised handwritten messages in fortune cookies, hearts with a chocolate twist, place settings plus designing your own celebration cards for those special events for our loved ones, including the christmas workplace party, birthdays, dinner parties or that special thank you gift to brighten someones’ day. Acts of kindness will never go astray or get old.
Students will be taught two monoline scripts for their calligraphy which easy to learn.

We’ll look at krafting a Kersal, and adding a monoline script which can be used for a Name, celebration event or poem. We can look at your own handwriting and work on it so you can .
