Goldthwaite, TX – July 19, 2025 – The Texas Botanical Gardens & Native American Interpretive Center, Inc. is honored to host a public lecture titled Securing Water Availability in Central Texas: Past, Present, and Future by renowned Baylor University professor Dr. Thad Scott. The event will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the Goldthwaite Pavilion, located in the heart of Legacy Plaza.

Dr. Scott’s presentation will explore the historical use of water by Indigenous Texans, current water quality and availability issues, and forward-looking strategies for sustainability. His expertise aligns perfectly with the Texas Botanical Gardens & Native American Interpretive Center, Inc.’s mission to provide lifelong learning experiences that preserve and celebrate the environmental and cultural heritage of Central Texas.

Dr. Thad Scott is a Professor in the Department of Biology at Baylor University and serves as Director of the Center for Reservoir and Aquatic Systems Research (CRASR). With a research focus on nutrient cycling and the impact of nutrient pollution on aquatic ecosystems, Dr. Scott is a leading authority on freshwater resource management. At CRASR, he leads a team of approximately 50 faculty, staff, and graduate students in advancing the conservation and preservation of water resources throughout Texas and across the globe.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Scott to Goldthwaite,” said Courtenay Smith, Executive Director of the Texas Botanical Gardens & Native American Interpretive Center, Inc. “His work on aquatic systems and nutrient management directly informs many of the conservation practices we promote here in our programs and the gardens.”

The event is free for members, $5.00 for non-members, and open to the public. Seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Following the presentation, guests are encouraged to explore the gardens and educational exhibits that highlight the lifeways of the first people of Texas and the native ecosystems on which they depended.
