This summer experience Rasa Reimagined—two boundary-blurring programs that fuse classical artistry with the enduring melodies of some of the most legendary musicians. Join us for one of two extraordinary performances by the Quartet reimagining the music of pop icon, Taylor Swift or one of the most influential rock bands of all time, Queen.
6:00 pm performance - Rasa Plays Taylor Swift: A luminous tribute to Swift’s evocative storytelling, reinterpreted through the lens of the classical string quartet.
8:00 pm performance - Rasa Plays Queen: A dynamic homage to rock royalty, infusing Queen’s legendary anthems with virtuosic chamber music flair.
Within the near-perfect acoustics of the Great Hall at Hammond Castle Museum, two musical icons are reborn through the artistry of the award-winning Rasa String Quartet. The Great Hall boasts soaring ceilings, stone walls, and carefully calculated acoustics that make it a near-perfect space for live performance—an ideal setting to hear the classics transformed.
Rasa /ˈräsə/: A Sanskrit term capturing the deeply felt but often indescribable emotional power of art. Blending the expressive depth of classical chamber music with the raw energy and storytelling traditions of folk, the Rasa String Quartet explores the vibrant intersection where these worlds collide—and inspire.
Formed in 2019, this Boston-based ensemble features violinists Emma Powell and Maura Shawn Scanlin, violist Kiyoshi Hayashi, and cellist Mina Kim. Together, they are graduates of the New England Conservatory, the Shepherd School of Music, and Yale University. With an ear for nuance and a spirit of innovation, Rasa brings a fresh voice to the string quartet tradition.
Winners of numerous national and international competitions—including the 2022 Associazione Europea di Musica e Comunicazione International Chamber Music Competition in Italy and the 2021 MTNA Chamber Music Competition—Rasa String Quartet is known for performances that captivate, surprise, and stir the soul.
Whether steeped in tradition or stretching into uncharted territory, the Rasa String Quartet invites you to discover the emotional power of music, where genre dissolves and rasa remains.
