Dear Nature Volunteers,
The Wolfson College water meadows lie immediately opposite the college grounds on the east bank of the Cherwell. Both of them are designated sites of special scientific interest (SSSI). They lie in the flood plain of the Cherwell and have been used as pasture and hay meads since medieval times. They're now owned and managed by Wolfson College.
The meadows are grazed in winter which mean they need stock proof fencing. Over the last couple of summers we've completely fenced the whole of the north meadow and last year we fenced off the eastern border of the south meadow. Today we'll continue with the fencing work on the southern border of the south meadow.
We'll dig in three straining posts; drive in the intermediate posts, and then stretch the wire and stock fence. Given that we'll also have to shift the fencing materials across the meadow from the College there should be enough to keep everyone busy -- there's also a significant amount of low blackthorn stumps on the wrong side of the fence that we can tackle. For more details look for the task email.

WANT TO BECOME A VOLUNTEER LEADER OR DRIVER?
We're short of task leaders at the moment and we can't carry on without them.
Some of our tasks are much easier to lead than others, so if you're a regular volunteer please consider stepping up to do a bit of leading. Any of the task leaders will be happy to let you shadow them until you're confident you know the ropes. If you are interested, please get in touch - we need more leaders.
