Museum Of Gloucester
Brunswick Road, Gloucester, United Kingdom
In response to the national crisis facing archaeological archives, the Museum of Gloucester has collaborated with Cotswold Archaeology to deliver the NLHF funded project From Store to Store: Uncovering Gloucester's Archaeological Treasures.
A former Ph*rm*cy has been transformed into a city centre based Discovery Centre where a team of volunteers have been working to review and rationalise the archaeology collection all while encouraging local residents to get involved. Boxes from the 1960s onwards are being opened for the first time and will be repacked so they meet current standards. This project covers collections management, disposals, volunteering, engagement and participant, fundraising and collaborative working.
The event will include a presentation by Elizabeth Johansson-Hartley, Collections Officer at the Museum of Gloucester and Beth Moreing, Archives Supervisor at Cotswold Archaeology, plus tours of the Museum stores and Discovery Centre.
Timetable for the day:
12:30-1:30 – Introduction from the SWFed and talk from Elizabeth Johansson-Hartley and Beth Moreing in Wheatstone Hall, Museum of Gloucester
1:45 -3:30 – Tours plus chance for break with teas and coffees, self-guided tours of the Museum of Gloucester.
Note regarding store tour accessibility:
The tours will take place at Gloucester's Museum and Library Basement stores, main museum stores and the new Discovery Centre.
Each area will take about 30 minutes including travel time but will include lots of stairs, uneven floors and the basement stores are dusty. Please let a member of the SWFed team know in advance of any accessibility needs by emailing ZXZlbnRzIHwgc3dmZWQgISBvcmcgISB1aw==.
3:30-4:00 – Opportunity for final questions and a summary from the team at Wheatstone Hall
