In October 2024, Johnson Controls opened a new 109,000-square-foot facility to house 250 employees dedicated to advancing smart building technologies and sustainable solutions. The Warren Johnson Engineering Lab (WJEL) is believed to be the first LEED v4 New Construction project worldwide to have earned all available points within the materials and resources category. LEED, developed by the US Green Building Council, is the world’s most widely used green building rating system. The tour will discuss some of these sustainable practices including native landscaping, a solar array, high efficiency fixtures and materials and more.
Inside the facility, engineers are working on hardware and software projects including automation systems and controls and OpenBlue, a suite of digital solutions and materials testing. The building is equipped with technology and resources including:
